“ALONE WE CAN DO SO LITTLE; TOGETHER WE CAN DO SO MUCH This quotation from Helen Keller summarizes why I was drawn to the Collaborative Divorce Process several years ago. This unique process utilizes highly skilled attorneys and specially trained neutrals to support and assist  divorcing couples as they work together to create an agreement that best serves BOTH parties. Each agreement is completely unique to the clients' situation and goals. The best part is it is 100% in their control!! This process is completely contrary to the typical divorce, which sometimes ends in litigation, placing all of the decision making power in the hands of the judge. This process places the divorcing couple in adversarial positions that often last long after the divorce is final. No one that faces the prospect of a divorce ever thought that they would be in this position. They need to make crucial decisions that will have long lasting effects, such as parenting time and asset division. Making good decisions during this emotionally volatile time can be challenging and very stressful. The Collaborative Process recognizes this and utilizes the team approach to provide as much support and guidance as the parties may need. My job as a financial neutral is to bring a calm, impartial and knowledgeable perspective to the extremely important job of planning for life post-divorce. There is a voluntary, free and open exchange of information, which builds trust. Together, we will work through the process of asset division, budgeting and cash flow planning to be sure that both parties have the tools to be financially independent at the conclusion of the process. I have found during my 15 years as a public accountant that there is often one spouse that typically handles the finances. This division can be part of normal duty se
